NM Section news for December 2012

December 7th, 2012

Valencia County Amateur Radio Station KC5OUR from the VCARA news.

VCARA invites Hams and interested friends to help send Christmas Greetings around the world from Bethlehem, New Mexico.  Again this year KC5OUR will operate as a special event station from Bethlehem (Belen is Spanish for Bethlehem) to send Christmas greetings to other Ham stations around the world. You are invited to our new club station in Rio Communities to take your turn at the microphone or for just for a visit. Coaches will be on hand to assist those with Amateur Radio licenses that do not include the HF bands, those who are not yet licensed, and those needing to learn or refresh their HF operating skills. Individuals, groups, families and youth are welcome!

Because many stations will be trying to talk with us rather than we having to hunt for folks, operating our Bethlehem station is a rewarding experience. And, this year the radio wave propagation conditions are great so we hope to make a lot of contacts.

The club station has two radios located in a separate room so the noise of the members and visitors will not interfere with the operators. In addition to being voice messages, one of the radios can be switched to the exciting PSK31 digital mode where communications are from a computer keyboard.

Dates: Operations are planned from 8 AM to 3+ PM for the week before Christmas: Tuesday, December 18th thru Monday, December 24th.

Get on the operator schedule: Call or email Ralph, NM5RC, 821-7636 or nm5rc @ msn.com to get on the schedule. Of course you are welcome to drop by anytime, but getting on the schedule will give you a reserved seat and, if necessary or desired, a coach.

Station location: 302 Rio Communities Blvd, Belen, NM Located upstairs (2nd story – outside entry via covered stairway from west side of building) in adjacent building north of MyBank. Look for our new tower/antenna. Talk-in on the club repeater (146.700, +, 100).

From KD5OHA in the December 2012 MVRC Local Oscillator:  Competitive races are once more being organized in Las Cruces. On Sunday, November 18th, several members of the club set out to prove that Amateur radio operators and horses don’t melt in the rain. We got a little wet but the temperature wasn’t bad. Many thanks to KD5OHA, KC7VHS, Perry, and K5DLA, Dave, who helped as jump judges at the Las Cruces Horseman’s Association Annual Jumps at Isaacks Ranch.  Then on November 22 the Las Cruces Runners Club revived the Turkey Trot race which started at La Llorona Park. On the paved runner’s path, the 10K went to the end of the trail near the Calle del Norte river bridge, the 5K run turned around was just south of the I 10 river bridge. There were over 250 runners. Thanks to KD5OHA, KC5SKE, K5DLA, AD5FE, and KF5KHG, all of whom helped with keeping track of the runners on the radio.
