Great participation this month. Thank you to Al, W5ACW for being net control. Propagation conditions were generally good during the net that lasted approximately 30 minutes. We had 1 station in Dona Ana, possibly W5, that we just could not pull out of noise level that was reported to be approximately S5 at the time.

Back in the day, when my family took road trips throughout the Southwest, Route 66 got you there. Next month, the Cirtrus Belt Amateur Radio Club kicks off its event: Route 66 On The Air 2018.
Twenty-two club stations in communities along the historic route’s 2,448-mile stretch from the Santa Monica pier in CA, to Chicago, IL, as well as two roving stations, will operate using the calls W6A-U. The event runs from Sept. 8-16. The rest of us are chasers. For details on the event, see: http://w6jbt.org/?page_id=15
By Bill Mader, K8TE
For those of you who follow ARRL news, you already know I have been selected to replace my predecessor, Ed James, KA8JMW, as your new Section Manager. I am glad for the opportunity to serve, offering back to the Amateur Radio Service and the ARRL that have given me so much over the last 58 years.
Before going further, I want to thank my friend Ed for his service! He went beyond his two-year term to give us an extra six months through the end of June. It is my honor to serve in his place and those who served before him. I am friends with Bill, W5YEJ, and Don, W5FHA, and knew Joe, W5PDY. It won’t be easy to live up to the standard each of them set.
My primary roles are to represent the ARRL to you and to serve you as your representative to the ARRL. While written last, I view my service to you as first. Continue reading

Bill Mader, Jr., K8TE, has been selected New Mexico Section Manager for the American Radio Relay League, which announced the appointment today. He formally takes the reins on July 1.
As section manager, Mader, will be responsible for overseeing the League’s field organization in New Mexico, as well as for advising the leadership team overseeing the League’s Rocky Mountain Division.
“I view the section-manager position as one of service to ARRL members, Field Organization volunteers, and all hams throughout New Mexico. I already have a long relationship with the current and former Division Directors and other ARRL officials. I believe in democracy and transparency throughout the ARRL and will serve with members’ interest first in all I do,” Mader said.
“Continuity is an important factor in any organization. I plan to keep all current appointees in place through 2018. They have the corporate memory necessary to keep the Section running smoothly. I look forward to meeting as many as possible at the upcoming Duke City Hamfest/Rocky Mountain Division Convention in September!” Continue reading
