2017 ARRL New Mexico Section Award Recipients

On behalf of the ARRL New Mexico Section, it gives me great pleasure to announce the following award recipients:

  • 2017 New Mexico Section Ham of the Year: David Hassall WA5DJJ of Las Cruces in recognition of his outstanding contributions to amateur radio
  • 2017 New Mexico Section Club of the Year: Mesilla Valley Radio Club of Las Cruces in recognition of its members’ outstanding contributions to amateur radio
  • New Mexico Section Lifetime Contribution Award: Don Grab K5BIS of Albuquerque in recognition of his tireless efforts towards the betterment of amateur radio in and around New Mexico.

In addition to the above awards, the New Mexico Section is recognizing the winners of the New Mexico Section National Parks on the Air (NPOTA) Challenge:

  • Top Individual Activator: Jim Frazier KC5RUO of Albuquerque for activating the most National Park Service sites
  • Top Club Activator: Los Alamos Amateur Radio Club W5PDO, who’s members collectively activated the most National Park Service sites
  • Activated all New Mexico National Park Service Sites: Mike Walsh KE5AKL of Albuquerque for being the first to activate all NPOTA units in New Mexico

These awards were to be presented during the banquet at the recently concluded ARRL New Mexico State Convention / Albuquerque Duke City Hamfest however, with much regret, unexpected weather-related circumstances prevented my attendance during the banquet.  Presentations will be made to each recipient before their peers at an upcoming meeting of their amateur radio club.  Each recipient will receive a plaque to display proudly within their shack or club house.

Please join me in congratulating these individuals and club for their well deserved recognition!

Thank you for being a valuable member of the League.  Your feedback is always welcome.
