NM Section News for February 2013

February 6, 2013

NM Section Web Pages.  When the Section web site was initially set up pages were reserved for clubs/organizations to lay out their own information.  First is the calendar;  if you would like to add an event to the calendar visit the “instructions” drop-down then read the instructions under “Add Event”.  Next are the club/organization specific pages.  If your club already has a web site that’s good.  You can still enter your basic club info such as date, time and place of meetings, contacts and a link to your private page.  If your club doesn’t have a web site this is a good place to put it and it wont cost you anything.  Read the drop-down, “Organizations Help”, then send me (w5yej@arrl.net) a note and we’ll get you signed up with your own login so you can edit your respective pages on the Section site.  No one other than you or your club is responsible for the information on your club/organization web page.

AB5WJ on the mend.  Frank went in for treatment of myastenia gravis in middle December.  Since that time Kennie and a lot of friends (and a few doctors) have been doing what they can to get Frank back on his feet and back home.  Kennie has been sending regular status reports and her most recent indicates Frank may be home about the 10th of February.  Get well, Frank!

2013 Field Day Packet Available:  June 22 and 23 are the Field Day weekend this year.  It’s not too early to start your planning and get your group together for this fun event.  http://www.arrl.org/news/2013-field-day-packet-now-available

Soliciting volunteers for the DCHF.  Ed James, KA8JMW, NM Section Assistant Section Manager and Chairman 2013 Duke City Hamfest

This year’s Duke City Hamfest will be held in Albuquerque on August 9th & 10th; the DCHF is enjoyed by numerous amateur radio operators around New Mexico and surrounding states, seeks to grow its volunteer organizing team.

This is a call for anyone who might be interested in becoming part of this fun and friendly group.

No prior experience organizing a hamfest is necessary, and new hams wanting to get involved are especially welcome. The Duke City Hamfest is looking
for folks who enjoy any of ham radio’s many facets including QRP,
homebrewing, public service communications, DXing, club leadership, ragchewing, technology, VE exams, etc. We encourage and welcome new ideas to expand or improve the annual event.

You do not need to reside in Albuquerque to get involved.

We are especially looking for individuals associated with as many New Mexico ham clubs as possible (especially outside of Albuquerque).

The time commitment is typically minimal (monthly meeting; remote participation by teleconference is possible, plus group communication via email listserve), and the group supports each other as a team, making it easy for new or time-constrained folks to get involved.
If you would like more information, or are interested in becoming a part of
the Duke City Hamfest team, please drop us a line at chairman@dukecityhamfest.org
